True enough, you may come across cheap ATVs used and save a lot. However, you have no idea of the history of cheap 4 wheelers that are used 4 wheelers and therefore it is imperative that you regularly subject your used ATV for check-up, tuning, and maintenance. Even if your second-hand quad is of popular make such as Honda or Suzuki, it is always best to make sure that it is in good condition and that it is prepped up before you use it. Sparing some time for check-ups will save you a great deal of headaches in the future.

Changing the Air Filter

Most wheelers, new or used, now use a standard paper air filter. These air filters sift the air of dust and other variables before letting the air enter your engine. Checking and changing the air filter of cheap 4 wheelers is guaranteed to make your engine perform better at its optimum level. In a day of riding, these filters get filled up with soot, dirt, and grime. If you do not clean these air filters, your engine will get dirty air and will not run efficiently. If the air is dirty, the engine will use more power to suck more air and thus reduce the performance on other things. The recommended frequency of air filter change is everyday if the ATV usage is heavy.

Changing the Oil

ATV engines, unlike cars, have small displacement. This means that the engines of cheap 4 wheelers need synthetic oil to keep the engine running smoothly. Without this oil, the hinges and the bolts will not run freely and they will get stuck resulting to burned components and an engine that won't run.

Every brand of ATV has a different specification for oils as far as the engine is concerned. Make sure you only buy or use the brand's recommended oil type. Every week, check the oil level to ensure it is still up to the specification. Better yet, check it each time you ride. In most cases, change oil is only required once every season but if you are a heavy rider, you may wane do it more frequently, especially if you have cheap 4 wheelers that you found on sale. Most second-hand wheelers are battered and not taken care of so you should be more cautious about the maintenance.
